Who is God?

Posted in Uncategorized at 12:49 by dresdensooner

When you think of someone you know, you don’t just think about the way they look, such as eye color or hair color or height or weight.  You think about who they are, about what they are like. He is so caring.  She likes to laugh.  She loves children.  He hates politics.  He is selfish.  She is snobby.  In short, you think about their character, good or bad, as well as what they look like.

So when you think about God what do you think about?  Have you ever looked more closely at who God really is, not just what you have heard other people say, but what does he say about himself.  The Bible is God’s way of telling us about himself. The Case For Christ

God is all-knowing, all-present, all-powerful, eternal and unchanging.  These are only a few of his qualities.  We are currently discussing a book called The Case for Christ every Monday night.  In this book the author, Lee Strobel, investigates the claim that Jesus is God.  So one way to see if Jesus is God would be to compare claims about Jesus with the attributes of God.  Let’s take a look:

  • One follower of Jesus says, “Now we can see that you know all things.” This is found in John 16 verse 30.
  • Jesus himself claims to be all-present when he says, “I will be with you always, to the very end of the age.” This comment is found in Matthew 28 verse 20.
  • And just before that in verse 18, Jesus says, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”
  • As for the eternal nature of Jesus, we find in the beginning of the gospel of John the following statement about Jesus, “In the beginning was the Word, and Word was with God and the Word was God.”
  • And finally, Hebrews chapter 13 verse 8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

With a quick glance at a few verses in the Bible, we can see that Jesus possesses some of the most important qualities of God.  Perhaps this is not enough to convince you that Jesus is, in fact, God himself.  If not, I invite you to join us every Monday night.
